Saturday morning, I got an email from Grace's cardiologist in Boston saying that they would like to dilate Grace's valve sooner than later (I have no idea how soon that means, since it was a weekend and I have to wait for scheduling to call me) and an hour later I got a call from David (at a time that he was suppose to be playing soccer, not calling me) and he told me that he blew out his knee. He was able to see an orthopedic surgeon today and the doctor stated that he's pretty sure that David tore his ACL and possibly his MCL, but that he can't say for sure until David gets an MRI tomorrow evening. If it is what he suspects, then David will most likely have surgery within the next week or two. I'm trusting that God has all of the logistics of both of these events worked out because in my little finite brain it doesn't make sense.
On a happier note...
-Last weekend might have been the busiest weekend we have had in history, but it was a blast! Here are some highlights...
In between basketball games we went to Gigi's Playhouse for some painting...
...Had a dance party!
Bestie loves...
Our Elementary school had their annual fun run. David and Abigail ran the 5k...
Abigail and some of her sweet friends... Can you find Abigail? ;-)
Abigail achieved her goal of finishing 1st in her age group. She ran at a 9:11 pace, which isn't bad for only her second 5k. We are so proud of her!
Grace, Andrew, and I ran the 1 mile...
Well, we started together (for the first millisecond) and then Andrew was off... he smoked us! Andrew is our kid who isn't trying to push himself any too hard, however, he blew us away on this run! He sprinted the whole way with a huge smile on his face the whole time and nobody pushing him except his own internal drive. SO very proud of this kid!!!
Some of Andrew's best buddies...
On to soccer...
We got to cheer on the Women's US soccer team play in the Olympic qualifying finals! We had a BLAST!!!
Since Andrew wasn't nearly as excited about going to the soccer game, we gave him the option to go with us to the game or he could spend the money that we would have spent on his ticket to get a new Lego set to put together with Papa... Guess what he chose ;-)?!?! They too had a BLAST!!!
-Grace LOVED the petting zoo at school...
Grace's cowgirl pose...
I love this picture that someone took of Grace as I walked her into school and she saw one of her teachers who stopped her to tell her how beautiful she looked. Pure sweetness!!!
-Both of the big kids won their last basketball game of the season and had a great time and my in-loves came to watch the kids play in their last game and to take us to a special early birthday lunch celebration. Love them!
-Andrew started wrestling and seems to really be enjoying it! It has been on my heart lately that I really want to make sure he doesn't ever feel overlooked or like he lives in Abigail or Grace's shadow. Abigail is an athletic little girl that can beat him at most any sport (I was really excited that Andrew was better at swimming on swim team last year, but after just two swim lessons, Abigail has smoked him at that now) and Grace is... well, she's Grace ;-), so we try hard to celebrate and help him to see all the amazing things that God has gifted him with (his generous and thoughtful heart, incredible creativity, ability to make us laugh, his love for the Lord, and so much more). So far, wrestling has been something that has built his confidence, it's something he's always loved to do at home, and it's something he can beat Abby at ;-). Don't get me wrong, Abigail and Andrew aren't competitive in a negative way at all, in fact they are each others biggest fans, I just don't ever want Andrew to feel like he lives in anyone else's shadow. I hope that makes sense...
-Abigail and I have had some great "girl talk" sessions this week. It brings me so much joy when we can talk about things like how to be a Godly friend, pick good friends, draw appropriate boundaries, find our identity in Christ alone, etc, and in our conversation she will point out, remember when you told me..., or in our devotional time we learned..., or I read in a book about a girl who..., or when Pastor Joe said..., or how it always says on KSBJ...? It was a humbling and powerful reminder that our kiddos really are listening, watching, and absorbing EVERYTHING, whether it looks like it or not.
-Andrew had his Blue and Gold Banquet for Cub Scouts, where he received his 2nd place trophy for the Pinewood Derby race and the 3rd place trophy for the best design. Not bad for our first year of building Pinewood Derby cars. Way to go Papa Toot!!! ;-)
-I had a great birthday, despite the craziness and stress from the weekend... It started with a great sermon at church (we LOVE, LOVE, LOVE our church), a couple hours spent with a precious family who has a one month old son that has recently been diagnosed with Down Syndrome, watching a great soccer game where Abigail accomplished 3 goals that she had set in celebration of my birthday: She wanted to win the game (they played against the one team that they had been unable to beat in the last two seasons), score a goal (which she did with her left foot), and hustle her booty off (in her words). More than anything, I was happy for her that she accomplished the goals that she had her heart set on. Lastly, my parents took us to dinner and we went home and ate way too much cake (my kryptonite :-).
The kids made me my favorite cake (strawberry with confetti sprinkles icing)!!! The little square with no icing is Abigail's part because she doesn't like frosting. Who is that kid?!?!
We could really use your prayers for all of the logistics and details that go into getting David's knee fixed, Grace's heart cath in Boston (we hope to hear from the scheduling folks sooner than later), and peace and gratitude during the chaos.
Thank you Village, we love you!!!
Can you believe how long her hair is?!?!
